Almost anyone in California could use a little Umbrella insurance! Why? Simply because we live in litigious times. Being sued is no longer that unusual and in many cases, the amount of damages a court awards is extremely high.

It’s relatively easy to find yourself on the wrong side of a law suit, particularly if your are a homeowner or driver. If you drive and cause an accident that results in another driver, passenger or a pedestrian being injured, or you damage the property of another person, you can be sued. If a visitor to your home is bitten by your dog, gets drunk at your property and has an accident, or even sustains an injury by falling over something, you can be sued.

Now you might think these are small matters but they can be quite serious. Serious and permanent injuries regularly occur in car accidents but even a simple fall at your home could result in a brain injury or similarly serious and permanent injury. Now, the medical and carer costs alone would be substantial – then there are other damages to consider such as the victim’s lost income, possibly for years into the future. It isn’t difficult to reach a few million dollars in damages. If you are found liable and the limit on your policy is only $300,000, your personal assets could be at risk.

Taking out an Umbrella policy can be cheaper than increasing the liability limits on your other policies so if you have assets you can’t afford to risk, speak to an agent at DC Insurers about California Umbrella insurance.

Everyone everywhere would like to reduce their insurance costs. With the Internet at hand, you only have to type in “cheap insurance” to find an avalanche of offers. But look closely – are you dealing with licensed and reputable insurance agents? And how do you know these companies are being honest?

The Internet has made it easy for anyone to hang up an online shingle and take credit card payments. And because telephoning insurance companies directly can be time-consuming, many people are only too happy to do their business online, without talking to a soul. However, not checking the credentials of the people you deal with online could cause you plenty of frustration and stress.

Getting scammed for a $20 purchase that never turns up is one thing, but if you were to purchase a policy from someone not licensed to sell you one, or a policy that didn’t actually exist, you could lose much more. Chances are you wouldn’t know until it was too late – when you need to file a claim. As the old saying goes, “If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn’t.”

It takes very little time to check the credentials of insurance agents in Oklahoma. Simply visit the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s website. Why not check out RCI Insurance, and then contact us at any time to see how we can help you save real money!

Umbrella insurance isn’t strictly for the rich and famous, although if you have a lot to lose – whether materially or financially – this is probably a policy you should seriously consider. But then again, you don’t have to be wealthy person to get sued like one. After all, we live in a lawsuit happy world, and being prepared for a potentially crippling lawsuit is a critical plan.

So, who should have umbrella insurance? Well, if you throw a lot of parties where the booze is flowing, for instance, be on the safe side and get covered. If you run a business or own and rent property, get covered. If you’re a newsworthy individual and often speak with news reporters, get covered. If you have a lot of nice stuff, including motorcycles, jet skis and such, get covered. If you drive a lot of miles or have teenage children that drive, the potential for the sort of accident where you might end up in court is increased. Lastly, if you live in such a way that gives the impression you’re rich, you may be a potential target – so get covered.

Who Needs Umbrella Insurance?

If you knew the questions that you were going to be asked on a game show beforehand, chances are you’d probably do very well. Life isn’t a game show, however; and it’s rare anybody becomes wealthy just from knowing the answers to a few trivial questions.

Nevertheless, you may just feel like a game show winner if you’re ready for the questions your agent or broker might ask you when you’re purchasing umbrella insurance. Naturally, you’re not going to know everything they’ll ask. But the more you know, the better it will go.

You might be asked what you own in addition to your auto. Do you have any other motorized vehicles, such as motorcycles or mopeds? And this may be an uncomfortable one, but are there any drivers in your household with mental or physical impairments? You might be quizzed about whether or not you have any employees at your residence. Your agent or broker might also ask if you care for any property that is not your own which exceeds a value of $1,000.

Knowing how to respond to these questions won’t make the audience go wild or cause some witty game show host to reach over and shake your hand, but by being prepared, you’ll help the process go a whole lot faster.
