Florida Flood Insurance

Flooding is one of Florida’s most frequent hazards – therefore it makes sense for Florida residents to purchase flood insurance.

Many people make the costly mistake of assuming that homeowners insurance covers flood damage when in all actuality it doesn’t.

It only takes a few inches of water to severely damage furniture, televisions, computers and the like. Replacing these items can be a very expensive exercise if you are not protected by flood insurance. If you have to replace your clothing and other items too, the cost can skyrocket.

How much you will pay for flood insurance depends on what flood plain you live on. Flood plains are divided into three zones; high, medium and low-risk zones.

A house near the beach would be classified as a high-risk flood plain thus owners of such properties would pay more for flood insurance than someone who lives for example in a hilly area that has no history of flooding.

In April of this year flooding destroyed or caused major damage to at least 106 homes in North Florida and Panhandle.

Preliminary estimations were that over $22 million worth of damage had been caused in the region.

If you want to be protected against such a disaster in Florida you should talk about flood insurance with an expert at Security First Insurance.
